Jacob & Esau – Episode 3: The Fugitive & The Dream

Jacob didn’t look back.

His brother’s scream still rang in his ears. “I’M GOING TO KILL HIM!”

His mother had shoved a bag of food into his hands, panic in her eyes. “Run, Jacob. Go to my brother Laban’s house. Stay there until Esau cools down.”

Cool down? Esau? Not happening.

Jacob ran.

For the first time in his life, he had no plan, no control. The birthright trick? That was strategy. The blessing heist? That was execution.

But now? Now he was just a man with a target on his back, fleeing into the wilderness.

Night fell.

The adrenaline faded, and the fear settled in. He had never been this alone before. The cold wind cut through his robe. No bed, no tent. Just dirt, rocks, and regret.

He found a flat stone, placed it under his head, and lay down.

And then it happened.

A dream. But not just any dream.

A ladder stretched from earth to heaven. Angels climbed up and down, like messengers moving between worlds. And at the top?

God.

His voice thundered:

“I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and Isaac. The land you sleep on? It will be yours. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth—uncountable. And I will be with you wherever you go. I will bring you back here. I will not leave you.”

Jacob shot up, heart pounding.

The desert looked the same, but everything felt different.

He whispered, “This place… this is the house of God. The gate of heaven.”

He grabbed the stone he had slept on, poured oil over it, and made a promise:

“If You go with me, if You protect me and bring me back safely… then You, Lord, will be my God.”

With new fire in his heart, Jacob kept moving.

He had no idea what was waiting for him in Laban’s house.

But he was about to meet the one person who would outplay him.
